Make a Scene: Farmyard is a simple and attractive app that allows kids to design their own farmyard scene, by decorating a landscape with animated stickers of objects and animals commonly found on farms. Make a Scene: Farmyard will get your kids’ imaginations at work, helping them to design the setting for a story, exploring through play, or creatively illustrating with digital stickers, while also improving their vocabulary and fine-tuning motor skills. Children will enjoy interacting with the stickers on the screen, while learning new words, and what sounds are associated with animals and objects found on a farm.

Make a Scene: Farmyard, by Innivo, Ltd., is FREE, and available for the iPad (coming soon to iPhone and iPod Touch). I would recommend it for kids ages 2-5, though it’s still entertaining for older kids (hey, I enjoyed playing it .

Open the app, and tap on the scene circle in the top-right hand corner, and change the landscape of your setting to one of several different types of farmland. You can also add animated foreground stickers, that add foliage to the front of your scene. Add willows swaying in the wind next to the pond on the farm, for example.  There are over 50 stickers in all, 5 background scenes, and 6 foreground stickers.

The best thing about these digital stickers, is that they don’t stay stuck! Move and rearrange the stickers in as many positions as you like. If you want to remove them all and start over, tap on the three- lined icon in the top, left-hand corner, and select the delete, trashcan button. Make a Scene: Farmyard is one app that your kids will want to play over and over again; big bang for your zero bucks to purchase it.

Another great feature I appreciate in Make a Scene: Farmyard, is the automatic depth of field; when you grab a sticker from the bottom toolbar, it automatically gets smaller the further away in the picture you place the sticker, and gets larger the closer the sticker is placed in the scene. Each time you tap on a sticker, the animal or object’s name is spoken aloud, and when the sticker is placed in the scene, it animates and makes it’s sound. My favorite stickers are the farmers; they will wave and say hello to you. Here’s a cool hint: double-tap on a sticker, and it will flip around and face the opposite direction. Make a Scene: Farmyard also allows for multi-touch; two kids can play together at the same time, but it doesn’t offer any features that will keep your kids from fighting over it… sorry

Save and share your child’s masterpiece by selecting the icon in the top, left-hand corner. Take a snapshot and have the image saved on your device’s camera roll, or share the image via Facebook, Twitter, or Email.
