bizzy_bear_house_iconHave a little builder at home, always stacking blocks, helping you or dad with jobs around the house, or maybe he or she just loves to get dirty? Then your kids will love this interactive storybook app, Bizzy Bear Builds a House. Bizzy Bear Builds a House allows children to move the story along, by helping Bizzy Bear complete tasks on a construction site. Bizzy Bear Builds a House, from Nosy Crow, is the second app released based on the Bizzy Bear board book series, and is brightly and youthfully illustrated by Benji Davies. Did you miss the first Bizzy Bear app? Check out my review of Bizzy Bear on the Farm here.

Bizzy Bear Builds a House is an excellent app that reinforces important skills for preschoolers, such as listening to instructions, following directions, fine-tuning motor skills, and learning about different types of tools and jobs people have on a construction site. They will also experience how other workers depend on each other to perform their tasks, and work together as a team, with an amazing end result of a finished home.

Bizzy Bear Builds a House is available for the iPhone and iPad for $3.99, and is recommended for children ages two-four.

There are two ways to read Bizzy Bear Builds a House:

Read to Me- wonderful narration spoken by children, and words are highlighted karaoke style when spoken.

Read Myself- You or your child will read the story on your own. This mode prompts you to choose how long the text bubbles from the characters will appear on the screen. The short mode allows a sentence of text to appear for 10 seconds, to give you an idea. In the Settings you can turn word highlighting on or off.

bizzy_bear_houseThis storybook app really gets your child involved in helping Bizzy Bear perform several different jobs to construct a house. Bizzy Bear Builds a House highlights where on the screen interactions take place with a flashing blue circle. The characters in the scene will also provide instruction on what to do next. I love how children can interact on a single page for as long as they would like, and perform a task over and over again.

Your child will help Bizzy Bear in the following interactive jobs:

Put Bizzy Bear’s hard hat on his head, and help him with his first job, digging a big hole with a crane.

Help Bizzy Bear steer a bulldozer, and push up the sand in a big pile for the worker pig to shovel.

Put your child in the driver’s seat of a dump truck, and dump gravel for the workers.

Direct Bizzy Bear in briging a stack of bricks to a worker donkey. Help him lower the bricks, and drop them in the wheel barrel.

Listen to the characters’ instructions, and look for blue, flashing circle hints to find little surprises along the way. Tap on characters, drag them across the scene, or give them a flick to see them jump and do a flip in the air.

See my video below to watch the app in action.

Bizzy Bear Builds a House imaginatively transforms your iPhone or iPad to a preschool-friendly construction site, and lets them explore the machines, tools, and jobs there, while directing Bizzy Bear in completing hard hat worthy tasks.
