Remember this classic game?
Yep, you guessed it, now there’s an app for that! Go virtual fishing with your little one, while helping them master skills in identifying colors, and letter and number recognition in the Trunky Fish app by Upside Down Games. Trunky Fish is available for the iPhone and iPad for $1.99, and is recommended for children 2-5.
You can play Trunky Fish solo or with a friend. There are 5 ways to play Trunky Fish: Classic, Letter Hunt, Number Hunt, Color Splash and The Big Hunt.
Classic: This is the pure fun, game mode in which your child will simply try to catch as many fish in his or her bucket in the given time. To catch a fish, wait for its mouth to open, tap on its mouth, and drag it to your bucket. This mode is perfect for toddlers who may not be able to discern between colors, letters, or numbers yet.
Color Splash: In this game mode, a clue is presented orally and visually at the top of the screen, indicating what color fish needs to be drawn out of the water. Catch the right colored fish and drop it in your bucket.
Number Hunt: Now it’s time to practice numbers! A number clue will be displayed and read aloud at the top of the screen. Your child must catch the fish with that same number in its mouth and place it in the bucket. I found this game to be a little tedious to play on the iPhone vs. the iPad, because the numbers were pretty small to read. Numbers consist of 1-20.
Letter Hunt: This game mode is just like the Number Hunt, but with letters, which will also appear in the fish’s open mouths.
The Big Hunt: This game tests your child in all the learning modes, for a random challenge to master the ultimate preschooler
Be on your toes to see if a color, number, or letter will be requested with the clue, and search and find the correct fish to go in your bucket.

Trunky Fish has also been updated with YogiPlay. YogiPlay allows parents to create an account for their child, and be able to track his or her progress in the app. Parents will be able to see what areas their child excels, and what areas need improvement. In the YogiPlay feature, kids will also be motivated to learn with rewards and a new game to play.
