Grimm’s Red Riding Hood: 3D Interactive Pop-up Book, by StoryToys Entertainment Limited, transforms a classic story for this technological generation, with a wonderfully interactive reading experience that relies on some help from your kids to advance in the story. Grimm’s Red Riding Hood: 3D Interactive Pop-up Book is a universal app, available for the iPhone and iPad, and is FREE till February 29, 2012, where it will then be priced at $.99. The app can be read in 4 languages: English, Spanish, German, and French, and recommended for kids at reading ages, and ages 3-5 (with help from adults).
When reading Grimm’s Red Riding Hood: 3D Interactive Pop-up Book, you and your child will discover 9 games every page or two throughout the book. In these interactive games, your child helps Red Riding Hood clean her room and get her infamous red coat on, pack a basket of goodies for Grandmother, run “wolf miles”, help a frog turn into a hero woodcutter, among several others. You can watch one of these games in the video below.
Grimm’s Red Riding Hood: 3D Interactive Pop-up Book can be read in three ways:
Read to Me: This option allows your child to listen to the story by narration, and your child can stay on each page for as long as they would like. Just swipe your finger across the screen, or press on the arrows at the bottom of the page, to either move forward or backward in the story. A nice update in a future version would be to add a karaoke-style, highlighting of the words as each one is read, so kids can follow along, and allow more reinforcement of reading skills.
Read it Myself: Here your big kid can read the story on their own, and advance through the story in the same ways as the Read to Me option. It would be nice to see the ability to tap on a word and hear it pronounced, in case a child gets stuck on a certain word, and doesn’t have mom or dad around to help them with it.
Autoplay: This option will turn the pages automatically. In a game, the page will only advance automatically after your child has successfully completed it. If your child wishes to skip a game, he or she will press on the arrow on the bottom of the screen.
You can also select the Table of Contents tab in the upper-right hand corner, to go directly to a certain page of the story.
Grimm’s Red Riding Hood: 3D Interactive Pop-up Book delivers a wonderful pop-up book with no worries of ripped pages, an interactive experience that makes your child a part of the story, and presents a classic tale that your child will enjoy reading again and again. You can find more Grimm stories transformed to 3D Pop-up book apps by Ideal Binary, Ltd, like Hansel & Gretel, Rapunzel, and Rumpelstiltskin (all $.99).
